Time Off at UBT

The time you need to live your life

We’re big believers in “work to live,” not “live to work.” That’s why UBT offers a competitive vacation and sick leave policy that gives you ample time to rest, recreate, and recuperate. New employees start accruing leave immediately.

  • Associate vacation accrual

Associates who take time off are well-adjusted, happy, and more willing to go the extra mile for our customers. That’s why we give associates plenty of time for getaways, staycations, or whatever it is you choose to do with your time off. Plus, we offer extra days off for things like wellness, community involvement, and other occasions.

Let’s get into some of the nuts and bolts of our vacation policy:

How accruals work. Full-time and eligible part-time associates are offered paid vacation time via an accrual-based system; temporary and on-call associates are not eligible for vacation benefits. For new associates, accrual of paid vacation begins at the completion of your first pay period.

Please use your time! We encourage associates to use your vacation time during the current calendar year — it’s crucial to your overall health and well-being! Ideally, those who are scheduled to work 40 hours per week are encouraged to take off five consecutive days once per year, if possible.

  • Sick time

The Bank realizes that there are times when preventative care appointments, physical or mental illness, disability or injury make it necessary to miss a scheduled workday. As a result, the Bank offers its associates paid sick time to comply with the paid sick leave requirements of the Nebraska Healthy Families and Workplaces Act.

    Paid Sick Leave

Full-Time and Part-Time Associates (30+ hours per week)

Full-time and part-time associates who regularly work thirty (30) or more hours/week receive eighty (80) hours of paid sick time each calendar year on January 1. Full-time and part-time associates hired after January 1 receive a pro-rated number of hours based on time of year hired with an effective date of their hire date for the calendar year.

    Part-Time Associates (<30 hours/week)

Part-time associates who regularly work less than thirty (30) hours/week receive fifty-six (56) hours of paid sick time each calendar year on January 1. Part-time associates hired after January 1 receive a pro-rated number of hours based on time of year hired with an effective date of their hire date for the calendar year.

    On-Call/Temporary/Interns

Associates classified as on-call, temporary, or intern, will receive fifty-six (56) hours of paid sick time each calendar year on January 1. Associates classified as on-call, temporary, or intern, hired after January 1 receive a pro-rated number of hours based on time of year hired with an effective date of two (2) weeks post hire date.

Any available balance in "Sick" as of December 31st transfers to Supplemental Sick with no maximum accrual limit.

Although Officers do not have a specified allotment of sick time, up to six (6) weeks of paid time off may be available if needed.

Associates may use sick time for the following reasons:

    · For the associate’s physical or mental health including illness, injury, or health condition; or for treatment, diagnosis, or preventative medical care appointments (i.e., annual physical exams, dental/eye exams, counseling, appointments with specialists, and other health screenings).

    · To care for the associate’s family members for physical or mental health including illness, injury, or health condition; or for treatment, diagnosis, or preventative medical care (i.e., annual physical exams, dental/eye exams, counseling, appointments with specialists, and other health screenings). A family member includes any individual related by blood or whose close association with the associate is the equivalent of a family relationship.

    · Meetings related to the associate’s child’s illness, injury, health condition, at school or care provider.

    · Closure of the Bank or to care for a child due to closure of school or place of care by order of public official due to a public health emergency.

    · The associate’s need to self-isolate or care for a family member than needs to isolate due to a communicable disease as determined by a health authority or a health care professional.

    · When travel to work would be unsafe or impossible (up to 3 days).

    · With prior approval, up to five (5) days total sick time or supplemental sick time may be used to care for an associate’s grandchild during the parent’s disability or bonding period immediately following birth or adoption of the child.

Wellness Incentives

Rewarding your healthy choices

They say good health is its own reward, but we think your healthy choices deserve an extra bonus — in this case, extra time off! Associates can earn up to two additional paid days off per year by participating in preventive screenings, fitness programs, and wellness seminars or events.

Community Involvement Days

Lend a hand and earn time off

Here at UBT, we care about our community, our customers, and each other — and that means we enthusiastically encourage our associates to give freely of their time and talents through our Community Involvement program. So enthusiastically, in fact, that we’ll even reward your efforts with additional paid time off when you participate in enough activities organized by our Community Involvement Committee. Good for you and the community — now that’s a win-win.

Leaves of Absence & FMLA

Options for when you need more time

We know that sometimes life gets in the way, and situations arise where you may need to be absent from work for longer than a simple vacation. If you need to be absent for more than three consecutive days, you may be eligible for a leave of absence. Additionally, UBT offers up to 12 weeks of unpaid time off under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) for events such as welcoming a new child or navigating serious health conditions for yourself or an immediate family member. Although the absence is unpaid, your job status, pay, and benefits are protected under FMLA. Below, you’ll find details on other programs you can participate in that offer pay while you’re out.

Short-term disability salary continuation program

UBT’s short-term disability salary continuation policy offers pay to associates while they are recovering from extended illnesses and injuries. After a two-week waiting period, UBT will begin paying a portion of your base monthly salary if you are injured or ill (including maternity) and unable to work for an extended period of time. Associates receive 100% of lost income for four weeks and 60% for an additional 20 weeks. Officer-level associates receive 100% of lost income for a full 24 weeks. You are automatically eligible for this program beginning the first of the month, following one full month of continuous service greater than 30 hours per week.
